Fried eggs are among the simplest and most essential recipes available. Cooking with eggs is a basic skill you need, and frying them is a quick and easy method to prepare and enjoy this ingredient. Frying eggs involves cooking them in a little fat in a hot pan until the yolk reaches your preferred level of doneness.
However, frying an egg can be tricky and lead to mistakes because it can overcook very quickly. For those after a sunny-side-up egg, classically trained chef Billy Parisi has shared how to perfect them in just one minute.
He pointed out that the most important thing to focus on when cooking them is the heat. Billy explained that he uses a medium-sized hob that can get decently hot to cook the egg for one minute.
To fry an egg, the first step is to crack one into a bowl and make sure there are no shells in it before setting it aside.
Next, add some fat to a small non-stick pan and heat over low to medium heat for about one minute.
There is a big debate amongst chefs about whether butter or oil should be used when frying an egg, and Billy has pointed out the positives and negatives of both.
He said: "Butter will heat more quickly and can have a tendency to burn, but it will enhance the flavour of the eggs.
"Oil has a higher smoke point and can cook your eggs at low temperatures, giving them that perfect white colour."
The chef noted that his "favourite fats to use" are oil, unsalted butter and rendered bacon fat.
Next, add the cracked egg into the fat and cook to your desired liking. Cook on medium for one minute or on low for two minutes. Finish off by seasoning the egg with salt and pepper and serve.
