Best cosy mystery series and films to binge ahead of Thursday Murder Club

The Thursday Murder Club is coming to Netflix and select cinemas soon, and fans of Richard Osman's books cannot contain their excitement.

With the film hitting Netflix on August 28, there is still some time to wait, but in the meantime, murder mystery fanatics can enjoy plenty of other titles.

The Thursday Murder Club stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley as four amateur sleuths who attempt to solve a murder.

They reside at Cooper's Chase, a retirement community where not much happens, up until a suspicious death takes place nearby.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries

Starring and created by Coronation Street icon Sally Lindsay, The Madame Blanc Mysteries was a lockdown treat for murder mystery fans.

The series first started airing on Channel 5 in 2021 and has since released four seasons, providing the perfect sense of escapism.

Lindsay plays Jean White, an antiques dealer and amateur sleuth residing in Sainte Victoire in the south of France.

Each episode features its own individual mystery, and several huge guest stars including Paul O'Grady, Les Dennis and Tony Robinson.

The series is available to watch on My5 or Acorn TV.

7 Women and a Murder

The Italian mystery comedy film aired on Netflix in December 2021.

When their family patriarch is stabbed, seven women, each with ulterior motives, become trapped together in a mansion to solve his murder.

The film stars The White Lotus actress Sabrina Impacciatore.

With a run time of only 83 minutes, it makes for an easy watch.

Murder in Provence

The ITV mystery drama series is based on the Verlacque and Bonnet detective novels by M. L. Longworth.

Originally airing in 2022, the series stars Roger Allam as Investigating Judge Antoine Verlacque.

Nancy Carroll also stars as Marine Bonnet, a criminal psychologist and Verlacque's romantic partner.

The series has a stunning backdrop, set and filmed in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France.

The three-episode series is available to watch on ITVX.

The Perfect Couple

The Perfect Couple is a mystery miniseries based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand.

Airing on Netflix in 2024, it includes a star-studded cast with Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson and Dakota Fanning.

Hewson plays Amelia Sacks, who is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket - an island in Massachusetts.

This is until a shocking death derails the wedding-and turns everyone into a suspect.

The six-episode series is available to watch on Netflix.

Murder Mystery

Murder Mystery is a film starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as a married couple who are caught up in a murder investigation on a billionaire's yacht.

Whilst on a plane to Europe to celebrate their anniversary, the couple meet billionaire Charles Cavendish (Luke Evans), who invites them to join him on his family yacht for a party.

When a special guest on the boat is found stabbed through his heart, they become suspects.

The film, which also has a sequel, is available to watch on Netflix.

The Thursday Murder Club will be released in select cinemas on August 22. It will then air on Netflix on August 28.
