Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast is expected to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu & south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department informed on Wednesday.
Thereafter, it is likely to move across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 12 hours, it added.
According to the weather agency, the system, which is affecting the wind direction bringing more moisture from the sea, coupled with local convective activity and a cyclonic circulation in Andaman sea, may trigger light to moderate rainfall and thundershower activity in different parts of Odisha till October 26.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur on October 22-23.
The Met office has also forecast dense fog conditions in Odisha on October 22-23.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on October 24.
Similar weather conditions may prevail in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on October 25-26.
Fishermen have been asked to watch out for rough seas and gusty winds. People have been advised to move to safer places during lightning and thundershower activities.
Though there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur at a few places across the state during the subsequent 5 days, it added.
