School, exams and friendships are just a few of the stresses that teenagers have to deal with - so if there’s a way to lessen the stress of coping with periods at school and the risk of leaks, it can only be a positive thing. Many young people have been turning to WUKA’s period underwear during their time of the month, with users hailing it as ‘one of the best things I've ever had’.
The popularity of period underwear has skyrocketed in recent years due to its comfort, durability and lesser environmental impact compared to traditional products. Plus, one pair of pants is said to be able to hold multiple tampons' worth of flow without needing to be changed.
For a limited time, WUKA, believed to be the UK's first period underwear brand, is offering shoppers the opportunity to stock up on period essentials with a buy two, get one free offer. The deal, which ends today (October 12), includes a range of items, from period underwear to swimwear and sportswear.

The range includes options for both teens and adults, such as the Teen Stretch Seamless Midi Brief for £14.99, Ultimate Period Pants High Waist for £25.99 and a Racerback Swimsuit for £49.99. Usually, buying all three together would set you back £90.97, but with the deal, it comes to £75.98 as shoppers get the cheapest item for free.
The Teen Stretch Seamless Midi Brief comes in sizes 2XS to Large and is perfect for those with a heavy flow. Described as 'designed to grow with your teen', these comfy pants are leak-free and odour-resistant, giving teens the confidence to carry on with their normal lives without the need for pads or tampons.
These specific briefs can hold up to 20ml of blood which is the same as four tampons or three pads. They're also recommended for first periods, heavy flow days, school, sports and sleepovers, reports Birmingham Live.
The Ultimate Period Pants High Waist are available in sizes XXS up to 6XL and are the brand's 'maximum absorbency period pants', designed to replace tampons and pads. These ones offer extra coverage, stretchy fabric and a high waist for comfort and style.
Each pair can absorb up to 60ml of period blood - the equivalent of 12 tampons or eight pads - and they're only 3mm thick so they won't be visible through clothes. They're particularly designed for super heavy flow or overnight wear as they provide 12 hours of leak-locking protection.
Moreover, there's no need to give up on swimming when menstruating, as Wuka offers its Racerback Swimsuit in sizes XXS to 2XL. This one-piece suit 'looks and feels like regular swimwear' and is designed for both performance and style.
It can hold up to 15ml of flow - equivalent to 3 tampons or 2 pads - and features a waterproof outer, chlorine-resistant recycled nylon and UV50+ protection to ensure it's durable and quick-drying.
Other brands offering period pants include Modibodi, which sells Seamfree Bikini bottoms for £18.99, available in sizes XS to 2XL. These are recommended for those with a moderate flow and can absorb up to 30mls of blood. They're made from smooth recycled fabric and are said to be invisible so they won't be seen under clothes.
M&S also stocks a 3pk No VPL Heavy Absorbency Period Full Briefs for £17.50 on its website. These knickers are available in sizes 6 to 24, in black or rose quartz colours, and rank as a bestseller on the site. They feature a three-layer gusset designed to wick moisture away from the body, plus a leak-proof outer layer for complete protection.
The WUKA products have earned rave reviews online, though. Regarding the Racerback Swimsuit, one shopper remarked: "I bought this for my daughter. I checked the sizing chart before buying and the swimsuit fits perfectly. She loves wearing it. No more missed swimming lessons!".
A second customer said: "The swimsuit is honestly one of the best things I've ever had. Before, I never swam during my period because I lacked confidence and worried. But when I got the WUKA swimming costume, it completely changed everything.
"I wore it on my lighter days and felt so comfortable. I didn't even feel like I was on my period while swimming. I can't even explain how much this means to me. So many teens and women skip swimming because of their periods, and I used to too. But now, thanks to WUKA, I don't have to miss out anymore."
The Teen Stretch Period Pants also received an impressive 4.8 out of 5 star rating on the WUKA website. One customer remarked: "These pants do not let you down! Good quality and a great fit."
Another added: "Perfect for my young daughter to stick in her school bag! She feels more confident that these will be there for when her first period arrives."
Some shoppers did express concerns about the products, with one reviewer writing about the High Waist pants: "These definitely do the job as my period is very heavy, wore one pair all day and literally no leaks! However, they are huge. I recommend sizing down or getting the WUKA stretch instead."
Another commented: "These are crazy absorbent, and I didn't have any leaks overnight, which is impressive considering my period is heavy. Unfortunately the mesh isn't too comfortable (I am autistic, so textures like that bother me) and they are a little bigger than expected."
The feedback for the pants was typically glowing, though, as another shopper raved: "They're are fantastic, an absolute game changer. No leaks and super comfortable. Would highly recommend." The Buy 2, Get 1 free deal is currently available from WUKA.
