Daniel Dubois told he 'quit' Oleksandr Usyk fight after brutal KO defeat

David Adeleye is convinced that Daniel Dubois "quit" against Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed heavyweight title bout.

Dubois endured a heartbreaking ninth-round knockout loss to the Ukrainian in their initial encounter back in 2023. The British fighter subsequently triumphed over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua before squaring off with Usyk for a second time in July at Wembley Stadium.

The Ukrainian proceeded to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion following a brutal knockout in the fifth round. 'Triple D' was floored in the fifth but managed to beat the count, only to be finished with a knockout punch moments afterwards.

Numerous fighters have weighed in on Dubois' display since then, with Adeleye recently delivering his assessment of the contest as he maintains the 27 year old "quit." Speaking to Sky Sports, he commented: "He tried and then he quit. I think. As soon as he realised it wasn't going his way I think he bottled it a bit," reports All Out Fighting.

"I want to be involved in another big fight where people think maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew again because I get to prove to people that I'm ready for that level. I'm not the type to say no to none of these fights"

Adeleye suffered a defeat to Hrgovic earlier this month in Saudi Arabia. Instead of working his way back up, the 28-year-old is setting his sights on a fight with 'Triple D.' Recalling their previous sparring sessions, he said: "I've shared a ring many, many times sparring with him, so he knows exactly what he's in with when he gets in there with me.

"You'd like to be a fly on the wall in our sparring sessions, but it would be very good if we were to fight each other. A good fight, a good shootout. I think the fans will be in for a treat," he added. "I'm open to any fight and I welcome any fight with open arms. I don't mind fighting anybody."

Just weeks after his defeat to Usyk, Dubois decided he needed a fresh start and parted ways with trainer Don Charles. 'Triple D' began training with Charles two years ago after a stint with Shane McGuigan. The renowned boxing trainer was in the Brit's corner for the three most significant victories of his career; against Miller, Hrgovic and Joshua.

When is Daniel Dubois' next fight?

In a recent Sky Sports interview, Dubois' manager Sam Jones revealed that a December return bout remains a possibility. Jones confirmed he has scheduled a meeting with promoter Frank Warren to map out the fighter's future as he aims to regain world championship glory.

Regarding what comes next - that's yet to be determined. Jones reckons that every possibility remains on the table, including another bout with Anthony Joshua. He also forecast a future clash with emerging talent Moses Itauma. "One hundred per cent. That fight [with Itauma] is going to happen," Jones declared.

"Daniel's 27. Moses looks like a phenomenal talent at 20. These boys are going to be the future. You've got Fabio Wardley riding a wave right now. We're entering a new era. Young Leo Atang was in the Sky Sports studios recently - he'll be in the mix soon too. These are the heavyweights who will shape British boxing going forward."

He continued: "The rematch with AJ is always there. I'm a big AJ fan - I've made no secret of that. He's a proud man, and I know he won't want to keep seeing that knockout by Daniel on his screen. I'm sure he'll want to right that wrong. And if he ever wants to, then let's get it on. It's all about what's best for Daniel now - WBO, IBF, WBC. He belongs at the top table in heavyweight boxing. He's an elite-level heavyweight. All those names you mentioned - Daniel will be back in the mix."
