Mohammed Siraj has been exemplary in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, not just with his bowling skills but also with the commitment he has shown to the badge. He is the only Indian pacer to have played all five Test matches. The 31-year-old had also played all five Test matches in the 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel said that Siraj might be a man of few words, but he is a natural leader whose actions drive the team, especially when things are not going their way. Morkel was also pleased to see Siraj getting recognition for his efforts.
"Siraj has been outstanding. He's a natural leader - doesn't say much, but his actions drive the group. I'm really pleased he's getting the recognition. Whether it's an extra spell or lifting the crowd when things go flat, he gives the team that spark," Morkel said following the fourth day's play in the final Test at The Oval.
While Jasprit Bumrah played just three matches in the series to manage his workload, Morkel revealed that Siraj told the team management that he wasn't going to miss the fifth and final Test.
I'm thrilled he's getting the credit: Morne Morkel on Siraj"He just said, 'I want to play this match, I want to win it for the team.' That's the kind of attitude that wins Tests," Morkel mentioned.
Former South Africa speedster Morkel said that Siraj's fabulous commitment serves as added motivation for his compatriots.
"I'm thrilled he's getting the credit. He plays for the badge, and that sort of commitment drives the rest of the team forward," Morkel said.
Siraj is the leading wicket-taker in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, having picked up 20 wickets at an average of 36.85 in five matches. However, he needs to muster one last effort on the final day of the series as India need four wickets to win with only 35 runs remaining in the Oval Test.
