Telangana (Hyderabad) [India], October 27 (ANI): Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Sunday praised DCP Chaitanya Kumar and PSO Murthy for thwarting a mobile snatching attempt.
Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP) and his personal security officer (PSO) sustained injuries while chasing notorious rowdy sheeter Mohammed Umar Ansari. The accused was apprehended during a chase by the police officers after sustaining injuries, following which he was admitted to a hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar told ANI that Director General of Police, Telangana, Shivadhar Reddy, today visited DCP, South East, Chaitanya Kumar, and his PSO, Murthy. He inquired about the incident, "how it happened, and so on", and appreciated them for their bravery.
"Both officers, along with his driver, Sandeep, chased the accused for approximately 750 meters... Two rounds were fired at the accused, Mohammed Umar Ansari, a rowdy sheeter from Kala Patthar. He sustained injuries to his right hand and abdomen. He was immediately apprehended and taken to a nearby private hospital. Chaitanya Kumar and his PSO, Murthy, also sustained some injuries from the fall and scuffle. They are now stable."
The police commissioner said that the identity of the other two accused will be revealed very soon.
"The accused, Mohammed Umar Ansari, is also stable and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. DGP Sir commended both officers for their bravery and their complete dedication. They are a role model for the department. Our teams are working. In the coming days, we will definitely reveal who the other two accused are..."
Police Commissioner on Saturday told ANI that around 5 pm, DCP Chaitanya and his gunman saw a mobile snatching incident at Chadar Ghat Victory Playground in Hyderabad.
"They tried to apprehend the offender, who attacked with a knife. During the scuffle, DCP fired two rounds, injuring the offender. An offender with him escaped; local officers arrived, and they shifted the injured offender to the hospital, who had injuries in his hand and stomach"
"He (the accused) had 20 offences, including the Arms Act, extortion, property crimes, and two PD charges. He served two years in jail... We are now investigating his associates." (ANI)
